2026-01-31SatMoon PalaceCancun, Quintana RooHighly rated 85 · ListenJam chartAs if inspired by the massive reading of "A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing" that preceded it, this take spreads itself out at a luxuriating, gradual pace. Melodic and rhythmic elasticity mercurially envelop the music, as is custom for "Sea of Stars", particularly colored by Fishman's finesse-driven rhythmic flux as well as Trey's both clean and affected textural playing. Play then forms up behind a spaced-out minor key drive, sounding almost threateningly similar to "ASIHTOS", building up to smokey, hazy peak before > "Meatstick".Before / afterA Song I Heard the Ocean Sing ->> MeatstickGap9SET 2
2025-09-20SatHampton ColiseumHampton, VAHighly rated 82 · ListenJam chartOne of the more interesting (possibly?) Fish-driven jams. If interested in following a different sort of percussion rinse - a riveting (albeit subdued) amalgamation of our favorite drummer's different styles and sounds - you can do much worse. While his play belies the suggestion the improvisation is in any way aimless, what's more: A true sense, here, that Trey is creeping closer, if not to outright (lowercase) space, than certainly surrendering to the air - his tone at times incredibly surprising, masterfully matching his introspective ideas. Or: Rather different from the other versions. Before / afterSimple >-> Gotta JibbooGap9SET 2

What follows is a wonderful, psychedelic, excursion. Fish fans would do well to tune in around 6:25. What follows is remarkable as the improvisation itself transitions, Trey picking up Fish's pattern, or call for action, with the version quickly assuming darker over- and undertones. Before / afterMike's Song >> Weekapaug GrooveGap28SET 2

A version worthy of the wonderful 7/9/19 "Sea of Stars", with the band building up a torrid and bilious fog on stage reminiscent of a good "Split Open and Melt" and Fishman keeping everything glued together. A good omen for the future of "Beneath a Sea of Stars Part 1"'s improvisational future. Before / afterCavern >> Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.Gap4SET 1
